En la Mar Lyrics

En la mar hay una torre
En la torre una ventana
En la ventana hay una hija
Que a los marineros ama
Las estrellas del cielo
Una y una se hacen dos

Dame tu mano paloma
Para subir a tu nido
Maldicha que duermes sola
Vengo a dormir contigo

Si la mar era de leche
Los barquitos de canela
Pescaría las mis dolores
Con palabrillas de amor

Las estrellas del cielo
Una y una se hacen dos

Dame tu mano paloma
Para subir a tu nido
Maldicha que duermes sola
Vengo a dormir contigo

Las estrellas del cielo
Una y una se hacen dos

Dame tu mano paloma
Para subir a tu nido
Maldicha que duermes sola
Vengo a dormir contigo

Dame tu mano paloma
Para subir a tu nido
Maldicha que duermes sola
Vengo a dormir contigo
Dame tu mano paloma
Para subir a tu nido
Maldicha que duermes sola
Vengo a dormir contigo

English
In the Sea

In the sea there is a tower
In the tower there"s a window
In the window there"s a maiden
Who loves sailors.

The stars in the sky
One and one become two.

Give me your hand, dove,
So I can climb to your nest;
You"re unlucky to sleep alone:
I"ll come to sleep with you.

If the sea were made of milk
And the boats made of cinnamon,
I would fish for my sorrows
With words of love.
The stars in the sky
One and one become two.

Give me your hand, dove,
So I can climb to your nest;
You"re unlucky to sleep alone:
I"ll come to sleep with you.

The stars in the sky
One and one become two.

Give me your hand, dove,
So I can climb to your nest;
You"re unlucky to sleep alone:
I"ll come to sleep with you.

Give me your hand, dove,
So I can climb to your nest;
You"re unlucky to sleep alone:
I"ll come to sleep with you.

Give me your hand, dove,
So I can climb to your nest;
You"re unlucky to sleep alone:
I"ll come to sleep with you.

(This is based on a traditional Sephardic song from medieval Spain. Note that in the original version, the last line of the first stanza is "who calls out to sailors" rather than "who loves sailors" -- the two lines sound similar in Spanish. )
